After a noncommittal jam session in a Zurich basement, the four band members André (guitar), Tobias (drums), Andreas (keys), and Sarah (vocals) decided to join forces and go on a quest for new tunes. The band’s artistic DNA is a modern 80’s synthpop, classic in nature but without any distractive knick-knack. Their tunes are deliberately rough around the edges and unpolished but retain a refreshing melodic sophistication. Sarah’s powerful voice effortlessly strings together these tunes with down-to-earth lyrics to create a catchy ensemble. The songs that spring from this creative process are April by name and April by nature, instilling humanistic values such as optimism, happiness, and adventure.

The band’s first EP Uptown was released in April 2012 and follows an unpretentious storyline. While Uptown and The Fire evoke lust for life, Holy Halo and Knife provide positivistic narratives of the crude realities of romantic relationships. Having received critical acclaim in the Swiss music scenes, the songs on Uptown were played on national radio and TV stations. Further validation of the album’s artistic value came in the form of invitations to perform at the 2012 editions of Rock Oz’Arénes and Heitere Openair, two mainstay events of the Swiss festival scene. Other highlights include performances as opening act for Christina Perri and Aura Dione. With the band’s debut album scheduled to be released by May 2013, April Calls is ready to spread eternal spring across Europe’s music festivals in 2013.
