Biography
CRYPTIC VOICE was founded in 1996 by Raphael Crivelli, Axel Jelinski and Bernard Zanella. Originally called ”Crimson”, the band started off playing mostly Metallica cover songs and demonstrated their technical skills at live concerts at the Gaskessel in Biel. Vocalist Dimitri Ceraso and bassist Guillaume completed the line-up by joining the band in 1997. Under the band’s new name CRYPTIC VOICE the group released their first three-song demo called “DEMO(N)”. The success of the demo was followed by many local gigs leading CRYPTIC VOICE to record their first full-length album, “Retribution Comes”, which was released in the summer of 2002. This album, containing nine original pieces, was well-received by the group’s fans not only for its original music but also for its professional production. At this point CRYPTIC VOICE began moving stylistically towards Melodic-Death. As a result of their combination of harmonically played melodies with precisely played power-riffs, the band received many good reviews in the most relevant music magazines. This achievement led to many concerts all over Switzerland as well as a few side trips in neighboring countries.
In 2003 CRYPTIC VOICE changed over to 7-stringed guitars and started composing new songs. Band members increasingly brought new impulses to jam sessions which resulted in a fully independent sound. CRYPTIC VOICE’s signature sound today blends grooving Death-Metal rhythms with aggressive vocals, unconventional double-bass attacks with melancholic melodies, and rolling beats with harmonic hooks. Each band member contributes his own unique musical background where it makes sense musically and enriches the overall song. In this way, CRYPTIC VOICE is not afraid of trying unusual things like using a megaphone to boost the aggressive tone of a song. Guitar leads with Wah-Wah-Effect also belong to CRYPTIC VOICE’s repertoire and widen the musical spectrum. The result of these experiments is the band’s latest album, “Access Denied”, which was finished at the end of March 2007. This album contains 13 original compositions and over 54 minutes of music. Each song deals with a different subject. “Death Row Dance”, for example, is an aggressive statement against homicide and manslaughter. “Shizzo”, on the other hand, tries to mirror the experiences of schizophrenia. “Shizzo” is purposely written with “zz” because it was inspired by a friend of the band’s who suffers from schizophrenia himself and who writes Shizzo with “zz”. “Miss De Witt” is basically a hymn of hate for the everyday glitter world with all its false promises and their resulting childish excrescences like dishonesty and superficialness. Even songs criticizing religion are represented on the album (“The Waiting For God”, “In All Your Eyes”) and show the agnostic attitude of vocalist and lyricist Dimitri.
After the release of the album "Access Denied" in october 2007 on STF-Records, Guillaume left the band and has been replaced by Roya, Ex-Member of Britney. Shortly after that, founding-member and guitarrist Raphael also left the band. At the moment, Cryptic Voice is acting as a 4-man show, writing new songs for an upcoming record.
