Biography
Da-Saz
Da-Saz, the collective formed in 1999 by Lionel Dentan from Switzerland now living in Delhi,
has come a long way with a variety of ethnic and hybrid styles of projects and music.
Featuring numerous instrumentalists, singers and percussionists Da-Saz aims to set out a
platform for new styles of urban music and traditional forms through recorded albums and
live performances. Featured on the Sahi Bol compilation is Delhi Sultanate, a collaboration of
Rap(Taru) and Electro(Leo). Cutting into issues and problems of our society form the lyrical
subject and warped electro re-sequencing make the music. An hedonistic mix of rap, poetry,
noise, dub and sub frequencies.
Jet Lag, a project envisioned as an eclectic combination of Sufi, Punjabi folk and poetic
lyricism interlaced with electronic beats and harmony, is perhaps the most progressive
project of Da-Saz till date. Fronted by Lionel Dentan (synthesizers, computers ,instruments and mix) and
the vocal prowess of Dhruv (trained Hindustani classical and Qawali style), Suchet Malhotra and Amjad Khan
on percussions and the engineering genius of David Scuvari. A seven-song album features
numerous musicians from Russia, Switzerland, Spain and India. Out soon, this album will be
pathbreaking.
