Eddy Jkapela was born in Angola in 1980, where he grew up and lived until the age of 10. Then he moved to Congo, where he began playing drums.

He was always influenced and fascinated by the soukouss music.

In the year 2000, after 2 years of music studies in Congo (INA) and Paris (École Nationale Superieure), he moved to Cape Town.There he was discovered by the world-known drum and dance school DRUM CAFÉ.

Eddy Jkapela was born in Angola in 1980, where he grew up and lived until the age of 10. Then he moved to Congo, where he began playing drums.

He was always influenced and fascinated by the soukouss music.

In the year 2000, after 2 years of music studies in Congo (INA) and Paris (École Nationale Superieure), he moved to Cape Town.There he was discovered by the world-known drum and dance school DRUM CAFÉ.

After studying and working with them for two years, he built up his own dynamic drum group called WESTDRUM. In 2005 he released the album KAMUENDE (singing and drumming) in cooperation with Biziko Ndongala, Saliu Diop and Ryan Donelly. Two years later, in 2007, he released his first solo album titled BANTU SPIRIT (singing and drumming).
At the same time he started his solo career as a performer and songwriter and became one of the most well-known artists in the city of Cape Town. He played in legendary bars and restaurants such as Cool Running, Mama Africa, Armchair, Obz Café, Zula Bar, the five stars Gold Restaurant, and the upscale Stellenbosch wineries of Moyo and Spier. He also played at events in the Baxter Theatre and the summer festival in Kirstenbosch. In early 2009, Jkapela moved to Switzerland and joined the AFRICA MAMBO Band as a drummer and vocalist. In order to expand his independence and nurture his individual style of music, he branched out as a solo artist.

Eddy Jkapela released his new album KITCHAKA TCHAKALE in January 2011.
