glaze was founded in 2006. It’s current members are Rafael Eggel, Stefan Rüst, Timon Elmer, Thomas Lagnaz and Axel Rüst.
With only three concerts on their gig-list they had their first big success by making third at the Firewire Bandcontest in 2008.
Only two month later they were invited to play at the renowned “Sprungbrett”-Bandcontest in Basel which created their first
appearance in the local media. Several concerts followed and the band quickly gained experience by playing all over the Basel
area.
In January 2009 glaze decided to record their debut-EP “rough soma” in the “Whysome-Basement”. The 5 Songs were recorded
and produced by Stefan Schneider and mixed at the “Alterna-Recording-Studios”. The CD was sold at their concerts exclusively
and very well received by the public. For the CD cover the band launched a contest to determine the best cover design. With the
help of local television, radio and newspapers the contest was spread quickly. The band selected Fritz Rechsteiner’s (Bern)
submission out of illustrations send th the band from all over Switzerland and Austria.
With their EP on board the band played more concerts around Switzerland (e.g. Ono Bern, Kulturwerk 118 Sursee, Altes
Wasserwerk Lörrach (D), and the Basel “Jugendkulturfestival (JKF)” Open-Air).
“Despite its wave-elements, a murky mood and a desperate longing dominate the band’s songs. Well done and a remarkable
lead voice.“ (JKF- committee, August 2009)
“Promising band.” (Berner Zeitung, September 2009)
“Their new two tracks “leather cars” and “remnants of yesterday” show a band which grew self-confidence compared to earlier
live-shows. The drum batters mechanically, the bass countersinks though the songs – nevertheless ‘glaze’ obtained a huge
portion of melancholy and introversion” (Volksstimme, September 2009)
In October 2010 glaze played at the sold-out ‘Kuppel’ in Basel and with that introduced their guest musician Axel Rüst to the
public. In February 2011 the band recorded two new songs at the ‘Helium Record Studios’. In the meanwhile Axel Rüst definitely
joined the band. The first single will be released in April with a videoclip.
Recently glaze won the Firewire Bandcontest 2011 in March and therefore receiving prices worth 8’000 CHF and a slot at the
LiestalAir Festival.
