The band Hoot was created in ’99 by Matteo Ercolani (guitar, vocals), Jérôme Stünzi (drums), Nadir Scheuner (guitar, additional vocals, violin) and Robin Stünzi (bass).

The band Hoot was created in ’99 by Matteo Ercolani (guitar, vocals), Jérôme Stünzi (drums), Nadir Scheuner (guitar, additional vocals, violin) and Robin Stünzi (bass).

After having performed live about 20 times (Neuchâtel, Jura, Berne), they recorded their first album, Binario Nord, in 2005. Influenced by the neometal movement in their early days, Hoot’s members have then developped a style influenced by other musical horizons (hip-hop, indie rock, trip-hop), softened and with a lot of intensity variations, with melancholic lyrics in english or italian.

Hoot, the sound of the owl, also calls up other ideas : the desperate scream of the forgotten, the sound of a train in a comics book, a train station and its north platform, the title of the album. The sound of a laughter in a town filled with torpor on places who appear but should never have existed. Isolated, meaningless and hopeless places which, when filled with Hoot's’melancholia, want to tell the world that they are in motion. In motion against the lianas of loneliness, against arbitrary confinement, against the prisoners of dawn and hate. Hoot created its universe in those destitute places, managing to fill them with laughings and tears, with its dreams, with people struggling for freedom.

The beings in Hoot’s universe are deep in an oppressive reality which requires escapism. With their music, the band fulfils this need to escape from its condition and to fly to other horizons. But the way leading to the liberation must be taken alone, apart from the masses : in this train, you are the only passenger, the only privileged who will be allowed to get in touch with the most unexpected universes.
