Songs from Utopia is an exciting new formation with an indie folk sound. The four players are all experienced members of the Swiss music scene and have come together with a fresh sound which is both melancholy and moving. The band could be described as "Town and the Country" urban indie rock, mixed with folk, country and world music elements.

Behind the dramatic vocals, the warm double bass rolls like a river, with the subtle accompaniment of the dreamy accordeon and percussion sounds. The band appeals to a wide audience, the sound is intense and passionate, but also sophisticated and urbane.

Songs from Utopia is led by Rebekka Zarkava, she is the songwriter and bandleader. Rebekka is a musical multi-talent and has sung and played acoustic and electric guitar, as well as bass, in a number of notable Swiss bands including Marygold, valiumspeed and Más a Tierra. Her songwriting style shows some influence of greats like Kate Bush and PJ Harvey, but the interesting arrangments in her songs shows that she keeps her ear to the ground on whats happening now and Cat Power and Lucinda Williams would be current touchstones.

Rebekka is supported on bass by Monic Mathys, on accordeon by Thomi Erb and on percussion and drums by Jura Dolezal. Monic currently plays and tours with Bern giants Patent Ochsner and has had an active musical relationship with Rebekka going back many years. Thomi is also a renowned player and has accompanied Corin Curschellas and Dodo Hug, amongst many others as well as leading his own successful band Thomis Erben. Jura is a well known face on the Zurich scene and has played in many bands there over the years. He has hammered the skins in Germany, France, Italy and the Czech Republic he currently also plays in the fantastic Lucerne beat combo Max & the Tatraplan.
