Biography
Hi, my name is Sacha Baptista.
I was born in Switzerland in 1988. I started playing the guitar in 2003 and I have been creating my own music since 2004.
About me :
At first my music was based on hard rock / heavy metal influences and the more I learnt how music worked the more I turned myself to jazz, blues and indian music (Anoushka Shankar). I can't deny I didn't enjoy the first jazz concert I saw, but the interest came very quickly, at first with Jeff Beck and then with Pat Metheny.
After that Jazz period I discovered the prog rock with Mike Oldfield and Genesis before all. I really loved their long instrumental pieces built and made of lots of different moods, instruments, feelings. It was pretty easy for me to turn myself to that kind of music. What I liked the most about it was that, closing my eyes, I could see the story it was telling, and very important, with NO lyrics.
I had spent quite a few years listening to Jeff Beck, Pat Metheny, Genesis and Mike Oldfield, then I discovered the band that was going to be my biggest interest ever and my biggest influence : King Crimson ! King Crimson.. What a band.. I can't spend a day without listening to it.. What I love the most is their ability to create such strange songs and their very interesting music technic.
To conclude, I would say that what interests me in music is research and the capacity of telling a story only with sounds. Therefore I also have an interest in creating movies music as I really appreciate Dany Elfman's work in Tim Burton's movies.
About my music:
The first song I have ever recorded was Non, which was actually an exercise. The guitar teacher I had at that time asked me to compose a song and when it was finished, I would record it as an exercise in his home-studio. I liked it and I decided it would be the very first song on my MySpace.
At that time, I was still into heavy metal stuffs with Tesla, Dokken, Queensryche, etc.
That aside, I have always appreciated classical and acoustic music too, what you can hear in Air, my second song. Then, as a mixture of classical and "prog" I created Tomorrow Never Came, which is very different from the other ones I made before. I had a complete different approach of the music and my interests went elsewhere. More prog than classical after that, I made Inferno's Stairs.
Afterward I began my sound engineering studies which got me ProTools and provided me to create a home-studio. I started working a lot on that software. I really like it as it is very easy to use. Then I was able or record my songs by myself so I started looking for something else. I started creating longer songs with more technical parts, more instruments and more moods… To do it easy, let's say it is just more progressive and more experimental. From then I composed and recorded The Rise Of Vanquished Warriors, The Endless Chase, Restless Spirits Of Yesteryear and The Echo Of Maddening Sanity.
You have to retain that I am not in a band, I work solo. Almost all the songs are composed, played, recorded and mixed by myself. All the informations about that are on the http://www.myspace.com/sachabaptista .
