A few weeks ago, after a solo gig, a young lady in
her 30s came to me and told me that she really enjoyed
the show. What initially was just a small talk chat,
rapidly got deeper and deeper…
She said: “I’m not going out a lot because I always
feel ugly and that makes me feel embarrassed. I see
people dance and everybody is so beautiful and I
can’t stop comparing myself to them… Though tonight
I don’t feel as ugly as I usually do. Thank you, Bob,
for taking the time to talk with me and thank you for
your music. “
I was gob smacked and wasn’t sure if I really got her
right, because she was a very attractive, intelligent
and funny young lady with a so called “good aura”.
Since that evening I am somehow sensitized and
constantly notice how people who may be seen as
unconventional by the majority, feel like they’re not
as good or as beautiful as those who were set as the
standard by the media, the fashion industry and last
but not least, our society. You, me, our friends and families.
Imperfection is the only perfection. Every woman, every man
and everyone in between and beyond is wonderful, unique and
beautiful. Diversity is one of nature’s greatest gifts we have
the honor to be enjoying right now, right here. We must preserve
said diversity and, not only think, but know that it is right!
This world is too small and life is too short to accept any
kind of discrimination.
And so, the days go by and you didn’t do a thing
You keep wasting all of your time, you don’t dare a thing
And when you drown in your depression, drown in your sadness.
Would it disappear one day?
Some got scarred for life and others just seize the day
Hey, did anyone already tell you how beautiful you are?
Just the way that you are
There’s no perfection and all beauty is going to fade
We all want to be somebody else sometimes, some want it so badly they go for the blade
There’s no beauty when you lack of kindness, there’s no beauty when you lack of fairness
You are unique, you are authentic. Who needs perfection? Who needs symmetric?
