Für den DVD-Release des preisgekrönten Schweizer Dokumentarfilms „Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae“ haben die Filmemacher ein einzigartiges Projekt verwirklicht: Mit der zur Zeit wohl trendigsten Elektronik-Formation FILEWILE und dem heiss begehrten Schauspieler und Rapper CARLOS LEAL realisierten sie den Remix des legendären RocksteadyReggae-Klassikers „You Don’t Love Me, No No No“ mit der Originalsängerin DAWN PENN.
Regisseur Stascha Bader trat mit seinem Kinodokumentarfilm in die Fussstapfen von Buena Vista Social Club: Er vereinte zum ersten Mal nach 40 Jahren Bob Marleys Freunde und liess sie im legendären Tuff Gong-Studio in Kingston, Jamaika, ihre alten Klassiker neu einspielen und ihre Geschichte erzählen. Entstanden ist ein Film, der von der Presse und vom Publikum hoch gelobt wird. Endlich erscheint er auf DVD mit reichem Bonusmaterial wie dem Konzert der vollen Formation am Internationalen Jazz Festival Montréal.
Carlos Leal: „Es ist wie mit James Brown einen Hit aufzunehmen“
Die Single, basierend auf der Soundtrackversion, haben in Kingston Reggae-Grössen wie Dawn Penn und Sly Dunbar eingespielt. Und in der Schweiz hat Carlos Leal von Sens Unik, einer der einflussreichsten Schweizer Künstler, seine Stimme gegeben und zeigt damit eine ganz neue Seite seines Talents.
„Es war für mich wie mit James Brown einen Hit aufzunehmen“, sagt der strahlende Carlos Leal, der mit Frau und Kind in das neue Tonstudio von Phillip Schweidler nach Thalwil gekommen war. „Wir verdanken den afro-amerikanischen und jamaikanischen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern sehr viel. Deshalb freut es mich, hier etwas zurückgeben zu können.“
Filewile: „Wir sind einfach begeistert von diesem Song“
Der Song wurde in den letzten 40 Jahren seines Bestehens von unzähligen Stars gecovert und ist ein veritabler Welthit. Die neue Version des Songs verbindet auf faszinierende Weise Jamaika und die Schweiz, alt und neu, verschiedene Musikgenres, Gesangsstile und Sprachen!
Filewile beweist mit diesem Remix, dass mit ihnen auch international zu rechnen sein wird, so geben sie in Frankreich im November ihr Album „Blueskywell“ heraus und gehen dort auch auf Tournee.
Die in Bern und Berlin beheimatete Crew hat die Originalbänder von den Aufnahmen für den Filmsoundtrack in Jamaika neu interpretiert und dem Reggaeklassiker neues Leben eingehaucht.
Genre- und sprachenübergreifend ist diese moderne und eklektische Version von „You Don’t Love Me, No No No“ etwas vom feinsten im gegenwärtigen Schweizer Musikschaffen.

They felt well at home inside the dancehalls of Jo'burg, Cape Town, Dar Es Salaam and Maputo. As Filewile are not a band drawn to hanging out on the beach for long, but always eager to collaborate on yet another dubbed out venture, the follow up to the last single "Number One Kid" was bound to happen: A sun trenched Reggae tune full of soul and troubled lyrics in the finest conscious Reggae tradition. Uncertain if the trouble comes from a torn soul, torn country or both, "On the Run" tells of broken hearts and broken homes in troubled times. Hailing from Mozambique, singer Pedro Da Silva Pinto (frontman to the band 340ml) masters a silken voice that mingles beautifully with Filewile's knee deep Reggae and Joy Frempong's floating backing vocals. The b-side carries a classic Dub version of the same tune. Heavy steppin' up in this!

Copy & Paste, the wacky Electro-Trash-Pop duo from Bern, Switzerland, that prefers punk shows to dancefloor
events, is putting out their second release on Everestrecords. The EP “It’s Ok If It’s You” contains four new tracks
plus remixes of Bern dub heroes Filewile (Mouthwatering Records), minimal newcomer Wildfang (Festmacher),
Playboy’s Bend from Belgium and Beats on Demand (Gene Poole).
New influences are clearly audible, after more than 50 gigs during their last concert season in Switzerland,
Germany and Austria. The music has matured, is crispier and more elaborately produced. The song “My Boy” - the
secret hit of the EP - features Bern rapper Gambit (Revolt Records); a collaboration beyond musical boundaries,
that is followed up by exhilarant remixes: groovy dub, solid breaks, frisky 4 to the floor and 8 Bit Trash round the
EP pleasantly off.
The release party is taking place on 2nd May 2009 in Club Bonsoir, Bern. Copy & Paste are presenting their new
live set with guest appearance of rapper Gambit. Djanes Learning by Burning will set the decks on fire afterwards.
