Catchy, independent and filled with such beauty, it makes us love the way it hurts: The album «Repeat Spacer» by MyKungFu pays tribute to the great art of pop.

It all starts with a dreamy chirp and gently takes us along sleepwalking. For his new record Domi Schreiber composed twelve bittersweet pop songs aimed directly at our hearts. Oftentimes they almost seem to falter at first, before a tender melody teaches them to soar to unexpected heights («Try Again»). Towards the end, this album's well laid out dramaturgy does not shy away from grandeur and tries hard to tame its omnipresent high spirits: The euphoric instrumental piece «Try Not To Talk» is drenched with fanfares and intricate beats, whereas «Shine, Shine, Shine» glows with an unforced serenity that, once heard, one will never want to miss again. Amongst all this sonic pleasure and in what appears to be a seemingly casual notion, Schreiber even manages to throw a catchy little pop tune into the mix: «Damage» – the perfect Single.

Domi Schreiber was born in 1973 and grew up in switzerland somewhere between Solothurn and Bern. Winterthur has long since been his home where he practices the great art of chamber pop. His new record «Repeat Spacer» was once more self produced. Sebastian Horn, singer of the German band Bananafishbones, or singer/songwriter and musical soulmate Biggles, who just like Schreiber finds himself on the quest for fleeting beauty, are mentioned as guest appearances.

Talent and friends don't need a record contract: Schreiber self-publishes his second studio album. Producer was his friend Lukas Speissegger (Foodcorner Studios) with whom Schreiber played a long time ago in the band HNO („I Don’t Care“).

With his persistence and attention to detail, Domi Schreiber managed to build up a remarkable Independence. The arrangements of MyKungFu also never get lost in details: In spite of all the noise and hiss playing counterpart to the familiar harmonies, the hopeless romantic undertone never drowns out the simple elegance and beauty found at each song's core.

With his great pop for the soul, MyKungFu managed to generate a growing and very dedicated fan base. The concerts remain his playground: From playing in a duo to performing on stage with numerous friends, his songs have been performed in many variations already. And because they are simply good songs, they don't fade out or get lost in translation but become better with age.

The fantastic, already published on a limited duo album «Behind The Tree» seems to simply have evolved into something greater. The same goes for the buoyant version of «Romantic Archeology» at the very end of the album.

«Repeat Spacer» will surely not be the last MyKungFu release. Domi Schreiber's passion for music is simply too big, as is his perseverance. He walks his way with consistence and endurance...which is a good thing. Really good pop music is much too scarce.

The band name by the way comes from a probably rather low quality movie: While fighters let their hands do their talking, a frail computer nerd says about his knowledge «This is my kungfu.» Some people owe their invulnerability to their fighting skills where others create a brave new world on their keyboard. Domi Schreiber survives with his music. A true blessing for all friends of ambitious pop.

Oh Domi, das Konzert heute Abend war einfach unbeschreiblich! Himmlisch, berührend, schön und einmalig. Ich war schon mehrmals an einem Konzert von dir, aber heute, das war wieder ganz anders und einfach wunderbar! Ich bin mega glücklich nach Hause gegangen. DANKE dir und der ganzen Band!

Hallo

Wir sind Orymus aus dem Kanton Freiburg. Seit einigen Jahren widmen wir uns dem leidenschaftlichen Liederschreiben. Mal brachial und brutal, mal zart und zerbrechlich zelebrieren wir eine Art Musik in rockiger, progressiver Form ohne grosses Posertum, dafür lieber mit technischen Feinheiten.
