“Eu sou de cor” is the title for Nilsas third album – I am of color! This can be taken literally because “black” is just one of many musical aspects of the Mocambiquen singer. The homogeneous and individual mix of Reggae, Pop and Hip-Hop with the African vibe comes along as totally relaxed and easy and makes you wane dance the night away.

Nilsa has stayed truthful to herself: on her third album “Eu sou de cor”, the mocambiquen singer demonstrates that a combination of musical playfulness and profound content works very well together. Like a chameleon Nilsa changes between Portugies, English, Spanish and Cena, a mocambiquen language, and with that she succeeds in a wonderful way to work up a tense atmosphere and to take the listener along into her world somewhere between Mocambique and Switzerland.

The fact that Nilsa is married with Rolf Mosele, the guitarist and producer of this album, and with which she has two children didn’t make her turn her back on her home country. This shows already in the song “Africa Muatani” where she pleads to her fellow countryman to take life in their own hands and “to cultivate the fruitful fields”. The song “Chamuari” starts out as a wistful ballade and transforms into a dance tune with almost Caribbean feeling. Also in this song the focus is on the African reality: a friend that was considered death, until it turns out that he was solely held in prison, didn’t prevent his brother to sponge money from friends for a fake transfer of his brothers corps!
The impelling catchy tune “Tchamuana chiro” shows of with some (freaking cool) Portuguese rap-lines and grants the listener some amazing moments.

Freaking Cool, or “Maning nice” as it is called in Mocambique, is also Nilsas band name which consists of some well-known musicians of the Swiss funk music scene. Drummer Booxy Aebi (Grand Mother’s Funck) and bass player Pascale Kaeser (James Brown Tribute Band) lay out such a solid and groovy foundation that it is pure joy for the guitarist Rolf Mosele (Funky Brotherhood) and Hammond-organist Thomas Bauser to weave in various patterns of colorful sound mixes. The disciplined band style leaves a lot of space for Nilsas voice without it every being lost. The goal is not to sound African all the way through but to concentrate on giving the sound, in a pleasant and reduced way, what it demands.

“Eu sou de cor” is a colorfull explosion that puts you in an incredibly good mood. Because all the songs are so very easy going and fresh and with so much passion it seems inevitable for the highlight of the album to be called “Love is a Song”. This potential N° 1 hit and cool Hip-Hop tune, featuring Freda Goodlet (Funky Brotherhood) and Akil the MC (Jurassic 5), will not leave your ears any time soon!

“Eu sou de cor” is the best from two worlds: happiness with profound content, power and vulnerability…..this is Nilsa. And those who would like to experience this “love of life” in physical form can look forward to a sizzling concert night with Nilsa and band and shouldn’t be wearing to much cloths…it could get hot and humid….!
