Almost 5 years since the first album, Nilsa unveils her brand new CD to her fans. «Aphale» is not only the title of the album; it is also a song that deals with a wedding proposal.

Another irresistable proposal is the album itself, Nilsa’s energetic style captivating you immediately. After her first album «Mamã» where her unique and powerful rap style was featured, Nilsa now highlights her qualities as a singer and songwriter. Together with her producer and partner Rolf Mosele they have managed to create a special crossover from Europe to Africa.

Being the versatile singer that she is, Nilsa takes you on a journey of wonderful, gentle melodies and at the same time impresses us with her powerful voice. «Our music is not predictable. We do whatever’s fun to do» she comments impishly.

It’s certainly no coincidence that the first song of the album, «Madrugada», with it’s reggae-sound, invites you on a fun ride. «Don’t sit at home alone, go celebrate with your friends!», that’s the message. So no wonder «Madrugada» – which means dawn – is the single and the videoclip. It goes without saying that you’ll see a fantastic african sunrise at the end of the videoclip.

Other themes echo back in Nilsa’s lyrics too: she sings about the ups and downs of being a mother and about shipwrecked or successful relationships. Or she stands up to all the men who dictate terms to their women with the song «Eu So Como So» («I am what I am»). With «Quarto Escuro» («Dark Room») she confronts issues of her motherland. It’s a socially critical song about the situation of many young people in Mozambique: «I don’t know who I am, where I should be. I go one step ahead and two back». Her songs are authentic due to the fact that she sings in her mother tongue portuguese and also in the dialect cena.

In the beginning there was a simple wish
Today Nilsa is an established musician, although it began with a teenage whim: «I just wanted a recording of my voice on tape» Nilsa says smiling and reminiscing. Little did she know that the first contact she had made with two Swiss musicians who had emigrated to Beira in Mozambique would soon change her life. The two Swiss from Bern, who were creating a music project for kids, met four rappers in workshops and music lessons filled with enthusiasm and musicallity. Nilsa was one of them. «At first I wasn’t very interested in the project, I just wanted to have a recording of a track with my voice» Nilsa reaffirms. But it was meant to be more that that: She became a member of the soon to be famous group «Djovana».

This rap group not only performed in Mozambique. Soon they were playing in South Africa and Europe. In 1997 they played for the first time in Switzerland where she met her present husband Rolf Mosele. She has lived there since 2001. «Djovana» now is history and Nilsa has stepped up to forge her own path as a musician... doing so successfully, as her second album proves.
